Iraqi Arabic Learning Books

Conversational Arabic Quick and Easy: Iraqi Dialect
If your desire is to learn complicated grammatical rules of Iraqi Arabic, this book is NOT for you. However, if you need to actually hold a conversation while on a trip to Iraq then this book is what you have been looking for. The Nitzany Method is designed for fluency in a foreign language while communicating in the first person present tense. Nitzany believes that what is most important is actually being able to understand and be understood by another human being right away. Therefore, unlike other courses, all words in this book are taught in English transliteration, without having to learn the complex alphabet. More formalized training in grammar rules can come later.
Arabic in Iraqi Dialect
The way this book teaches Arabic is through the Iraqi dialect. This book consists of 6 chapters that will teach you a good amount of information. Each English phrase is translated into Iraqi dialect using the Arabic alphabet. Then it is transliterated using the English alphabet. Most of the information in this book is on my YouTube channel. The methods in this book have been developed from years of teaching and constant feedback from my YouTube channel (Rami The Iraqi).
Iraqi Arabic Phrase Book: Arabic for contractors working in Iraq
This book is designed to be an indispensable language aid for oil and construction workers, security personnel and contractors of all disciplines who work with Iraqi colleagues. The book contains an introduction to Arabic grammar, then thirty separate sections which present broad-based, essential basics as well as specialist work-related subjects, such as construction, security, vehicles, first aid and dealing with colleagues. It also contains a handy English-Arabic word list with over 600 items of vocabulary. All vocabulary is presented in a clear, easy-to-follow format, showing English, Arabic and transliteration. Sample phrases utilize the vocabulary in work-related contexts.
Modern Iraqi Arabic
This is an introductory textbook ― suitable for classroom or self-study ― for those with no previous knowledge of Arabic or those who know Arabic but want to learn the Iraqi dialect. A detailed discussion of the consonants, vowels, and other characteristics of Iraqi phonetics ― including pronunciation exercises on the CD ― serves the needs of travelers, businesspeople, diplomats, and scholars who want to learn to speak the language quickly and efficiently. Using the dialect of middle-class Baghdad, twenty lessons are arranged in a story-like format and are based on everyday travel situations. The book contains basic dialogue, grammar, vocabulary, drills, and an extensive glossary. A section of idiomatic phrases, accompanied by their cultural, religious, or proverbial explanations, offers insight into current Iraqi culture.
The Georgetown Dictionary of Iraqi Arabic
This is a modernized, up-to-date dialectal Arabic language resource that promotes successful daily communication with native Arabic speakers. Students, teachers, and scholars of Arabic will welcome this dramatically overhauled edition of one of the only Arabic dialect dictionaries of its kind. Created in cooperation with Georgetown University Press and the Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC) of the University of Pennsylvania, this new dictionary draws from the LDC's extensive lexical database of colloquial Iraqi, and includes more than a thirty percent increase in terms for contemporary speech than found in the original dictionaries. This comprehensive reference focuses on conversation, emphasizing the colloquial speech of educated residents of Baghdad.
A Basic Course in Iraqi Arabic
This is a comprehensive introduction to the Iraqi Arabic dialect spoken by Muslim Baghdad residents, transcribed and not in Arabic script. It does not assume prior knowledge of Arabic. A Basic Course in Iraqi Arabic contains ten chapters of phonology to explain the sounds, and thirty more covering grammar and vocabulary. The phonology chapters all contain extensive drills. The grammar chapters start with a dialogue or brief narrative, then explain new vocabulary and points of grammar, and conclude with drills. The book is enhanced with a bound-in CD with audio MP3 files to accompany the text and drills.
A Short Reference Grammar of Iraqi Arabic
A Short Reference Grammar of Iraqi Arabic is the only volume of its kind, reflecting Iraqi Arabic as spoken by Muslims in Baghdad. With all the Arabic transcribed, it is written for beginners as well as Arabic speakers wanting to learn the dialect. It covers the phonology, morphology (word formation of nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, and numerals, achieved by adding prefixes and suffixes to roots), and syntax, teaching the reader how to make the sounds, form words, and construct sentences.
Arabic vs. Arabic: A Dialect Sampler
While this book does not focus on learning Iraqi Arabic, it lets you explore the vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar of 15 varieties of Arabic (that is, Modern Standard Arabic and 14 dialects including Iraqi Arabic) through tables with notes and free, downloadable accompanying audio. You can go through the tables in order or skip around the book to see what catches your attention. The book really is meant to be a sampler platter to give you a taste of each Arabic dialect and a better understanding of just how varied the various varieties of Arabic are. The layout encourages the self-discovery method of learning. While the notes under many tables identify points of interest, you are encouraged to find patterns, exceptions, innovative features of dialects, and universals by studying the tables and listening to the audio tracks.
